Office of Research and Development

    Integrated Risk Information System - IRIS is an EPA database of human health effects that may result from exposure to various substances found in the environment.
    National Center for Environmental Assessment (U.S. EPA) - NCEA is EPA's national resource center for the overall process of human health and ecological risk assessments; the integration of hazard, dose-response, and exposure data and models to produce risk characterizations.
    National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) - Conducts and sponsors studies and provides information on stressor sources; pollutant transport, transformations and exposure; and source-to receptor predictive exposure models for environmental stressors.
    National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL) - EPA's focal point for scientific research on the effects of contaminants and environmental stressors on human health and ecosystem integrity.
    National Human Health Research Program - The Human Health Research Program at EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD) provides a strategic approach to develop and evaluate the methods, tools, and data needed to improve risk assessments to protect the public.
    National Risk Management Research Laboratory - NRMRL conducts research into ways to prevent and reduce risks from pollution that threaten human health and the environment.
    Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation - Encourages the development and implementation of (1) innovative treatment technologies for hazardous waste site remediation and (2) monitoring and measurement.
